So, the question of this piece starts with that amazing interrogative: "Why?"
That word can be used one of two different ways. First, it can be a genuine quest for knowledge and understanding. For instance: Why do we not use the metric system in the USA? Why do people continue to drive to the restaurant with the proliferation of food delivery services? Why do people like mayonaisse?
On the other hand, the word "Why" can be used as a challenge to authority. We have all seen it with children. You tell them to clean their room and you get "Why?!?" You tell them to go to school and they retort, "Why?!?" You tell them to speak respectfully to you. "WHY?!?"
The first step to unravelling the question about why God cares who we sleep with is to check your heart. Is this a challenge to God's authority or is it a genuine request for knowledge and understanding.
Next, I would gather an answer from John Piper's book This Temporary Marriage. In that book, it is clear that the Word of God draws a direct comparisons between the relationship of the church to the Savior as mirroring the relationship of the bride to the groom. An ethic of sexual purity reflects our relationship with Jesus. We do not engage in idolatry, because doing so would be renting out ourselves to someone or something that is not our beloved. Sexual purity is a picture of spiritual devotion consistent with both the explicit Words of the Bible, as well as this grand motif of spiritual marriage that it paints.
Daniel Nealon continues this thought in his article. You can access by clicking --> here <--
His reasons include:
God Cares Because: God Created Sex,
God Cares Because: Our Bodies Matter, and
God Cares Because: We are New Creations in Christ.
The pressures to have sex outside of a marriage (defined as one man and one woman in the bonds of matrimony, as God designed and has commanded) are tremendous. Making the landscape even trickier is the season (Valentines Day) and the onslaught of computerized means of sexual ensnarement. I pray that the God of all strength and comfort, strengthen and comfort you in his design and direction for your life, your marriage, and your sexual purity, as we all await the wedding feast at the end of time.
