I am a Christian, and I try, earnestly and fervently, never to cuss.
Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. (Eph 4:29-32 ESV)
A few years ago, an author published a book and took to the internet in order to popularize the idea that Christians can cuss, “a little.” Nothing could be farther from the truth. Scripture teaches us that the tongue is the greatest weapon that we have. When we unleash it in an effort to expel anger in a vulgar way, to use lurid words that bring disrepute on the cause of Christ, and to expel harsh words that demean and lower the IQ of the conversation, then God is not honored.
For “Whoever desires to love life and see good days,
let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit;
let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it.
For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer.
But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.” (1 Peter 3:10-12 ESV)
Scripture could not be clearer, without publishing a list of cuss words, that our mouths can either honor God or bring us closer to evil. Our words are an overflow of the heart. Jesus spoke a parable about a good and bad tree to illustrate this point:
Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad, for the tree is known by its fruit. You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. (Matthew 12:33-34 ESV)

Beware those who claim that Christians can openly sin. This is just another instance of creating a new god to worship, using some of the structure of the God of the Bible. They create a different gospel.
Imagine taking a Pizza Hut and making a liquor store out of it (OK, this has been done, seemingly, hundreds of times across the American landscape). You cannot point to this converted building and say that it is a true Pizza Hut. You may be seeing some of the remaining structure (the roofline, in particular) which resembles the great Pizza Hut restaurants of the 1980s. Go inside and order a Pizza – you will find out very quickly that the Pizza Hut no longer inhabits the Pizza Hut-shaped building anymore. It only has the form of Pizza Hut – but none of the substance.
Something was subtracted. Then something was added. The result is something totally different.
You cannot be a Christian and openly embrace the practice of sin. There is forgiveness for us when we slip up, for sure. However, we do not go about town bragging that we are Christians who embrace sinful speech.
