I have to admit that sometimes I cannot help myself.
My daughter showed me a funny video (--> here <--) that features a man in a McDonald’s drive through. He orders a “Big Mac, a large ‘Boke,’ a six-piece ‘bicken’ nuggets, and three ‘bhocolate bhip bookies.’” The reaction of the lady on the other end of the drive through is funny. She incredulously reads back the order as stated, her voice questioning the items ordered – especially the bookies.
Internet sensations are so easily made these days. Well, here goes your daily biblical application:
What are you listening to?
In Matthew 7: 15, Jesus warns, “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruits.” Paul addressed the early Ephesian church in Acts 20: 29-31 using these terms, “I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves will arise men speaking twisted things, to draw away the disciples after them. Therefore be alert.”
How do you spot a fake? Your familiarity with the genuine, of course! That is how bank tellers can spot fake currency. If wolves are coming, and they are dressed up as sheep, then get familiar with what a sheep looks like. Spend time with the sheep, hang out in the pasture, pet the sheep, converse with the sheep – you may even try shearing a sheep or two. If you are intimately familiar with the sheep, when a clever wolf comes by, enticing your attention, belief, and imagination, you will only hear, “bhocolate bhip bookie.”
Your response, like the McDonald’s employee ,should be one of instant incredulity: “Bhocolate bhip bookie?!?!?!” You will wonder to yourself if this wolf really thought his appearance could fool you!
So, spend time in God’s Word, listen to faithful voices, spend time in prayer - know the true then the false will stand out like a sore thumb!
Like a bhocolate bhip bookie!
