Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good.

- Romans 12:9

This Thanksgiving, as you put on the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade to play in the background of your meal preparation and your family time, consider one thing:

Those balloons don't deflate themselves.

The parade balloons have to end on a landing strip. The balloon that takes 90 minuts to inflate must be deflated in 15 minutes!  The helium is let out of zippered holes and a battallion of people begin jumping on the inflatable in order to get all the air out and roll it up before the next balloon arrives.  If the crew does not get the task accomplished in the time allotted, then the next balloon just walks on top of them (because they have the same 15-minute timeline)!

Imagine riding an escalator down, then stopping at the bottom! You are going to get run over if you don't keep moving.

But, how often do we treat our belief, our proclamation, and our Christian devotion like a parade baloon. We inflate it on Sunday, or on special occasions during the week. Then, as soon as we get back home and back into the working world, we quickly deflate what God has spoken to us. It is as if church and our relationship with God is something that makes us feel good for a while, but it has no place in the real world!

God forbid! What God reveals in his Word is good for all of life - all of it! We lean on it in times of great need, but we need to live it out when we are comfortable. God is always there, and his will for us does not change depending on our setting or mood! We ought to be as devoted to his cause.
