They are just barriers to be overcome - crafted in our image - or they are just window dressing - made to reflect our shifting vanities. Who needs a body anyway, when you can find meaningful connection that tickles the soul in technology? An online image is certainly something that can be made in our (imaginary) image.
What you get is the devaluation of our bodies as well as a capitulation to some ancient heresy (that of Platonism's separation of the body - the evil - and the mind - the good). The Bible teaches us that our bodies are a gift from God, not something to be worshipped, and not a thing that should be discarded! Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit! (1 Corinthians 6:19)
