A small moment can shatter a lifetime.

Sam Allberry mines the goodness found in Proverbs 5 to give us practical advice in how to avoid sexual sin. I urge you to read his full story by clicking --> here <--

If you need a quick summary before you read his article, here are his four points:

1. Flee.

The iniquities of the wicked ensnare him,
and he is held fast in the cords of his sin. (Prov. 5:22)

That's right. Run from it. If you saw something that you knew was a trap - and better yet, that it was a trap that would pursue you, you would flee! The problem is that we do not see sexual sin as the trap that it truly is!

But don't just run away from something --- run to someone!  Run to the One who can free you from all sin (Revelation 1:5)

Don't see how close you can get to sexual sin. That - amazingly enough - is the exact opposite of fleeing! That is approaching.

And now, O sons, listen to me,
and do not depart from the words of my mouth.
Keep your way far from her,
and do not go near the door of her house. (Prov. 5:7-8)

2. Consider the Future.

At the end of your life you groan,
when your flesh and body are consumed. (Prov. 5:11)

Sexual sin is never without consequence. The world says sexual sin is anything done without consent. That is not the definition in God's kingdom. His Word clearly defines that sex outside of marriage - and even the sexual sins of our heart, mind, and eyes - are all deviations from his good design for sexual fulfillment in marriage (or grace and/or patience for the single).

3. Honor your Marriage.

Drink water from your own cistern,
flowing water from your own well.
Should your springs be scattered abroad,
streams of water in the streets?
Let them be for yourself alone,
and not for strangers with you.
Let your fountain be blessed,
and rejoice in the wife of your youth,
a lovely deer, a graceful doe. (Prov. 5:15-19)

God has a great design for your flourishing, and it comes natually based on how God designed us at the moment of creation in Genesis 1. When we rebel against that design, we not only rebel against God, but there are natural consequences in this life.

Honor your spouse with your life!

4. God is Watching.

For a man’s ways are before the eyes of the Lord,
and he ponders all his paths. (Prov. 5:21)

This is more than the lyrics from one of my favorite songs from Contemporary Christian artist "Crumbacher":

You can't escape
You can't hide
When He's looking at you
With His infrared еyes
You're deep in the dark
But thе dark is light
When He's looking at you
With His infrared eyes

This is a God who knows you more than you know yourself. Despite that level of knowledge, he remains your friend through humble repentence, belief, and longing for his presence. Read a story about the friendship of God by Dane Ortlund by clicking --> here <--

I woud add one more to the list. Be busy with the mission that God has placed on your life. Give no room for the enemy to tempt you! Be so driven by your love of God and pursuit of being a disciple who is being discipled and making disciples, that there is no room to even dream of sexual error!

Love God, follow Jesus, hate evil, and remain in fellowship!
